OBAMA & SARKOZY - NO HONOUR, NO RESPECT & NO GENTLEMEN

Two Cheap Media Whores (& Carla Bruni)

AFP - France insisted Wednesday that Britain's Queen Elizabeth II would be welcome to attend a commemoration of the D-Day landings, denying reports that she had been snubbed.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy will be joined by US President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown at the Normandy landings commemoration in northern France, on June 6.

But the queen has not specifically received an invitation from the French government, even though she was present for the 60th anniversary event in 2004, amid claims in the British press that she was annoyed at being excluded.

A spokesman for the French government, Luc Chatel, said that France had invited Britain to attend the ceremony and that it was up to Brown's government to decide who was to represent it.

"The Queen of England, as British head of state, is naturally welcome," he said, briefing reporters after a French cabinet meeting. "It's not up to France to decide who will represent Britain.

"Our contacts on this ceremony were members of the British government who wanted to take part in a ceremony which was from the start Franco-American," he said.

"June 6, 2009 is primarily a Franco-American ceremony," Chatel added, noting that the US president traditionally came to Normandy in his first year of office.

This is the most weasel bullshit. If this is what the French call an invitation then in future Britain should offer the same type of ‘invitation’ to France, a dog-turd in an envelope.

“A French government source said: 'There were never any plans to invite members of the British Royal Family, although an invitation has been extended to Gordon Brown after he said he wanted to come.”

The last time I gate-crashed a party I didn’t consider I’d been invited just because they let me in.

Luc Chatel again:

"Our contacts on this ceremony were members of the British government who wanted to take part in a ceremony which was from the start Franco-American," he said.

Commander in Chief - Photo Opportunities

Maybe the American President does turn up to Normandy in his first year of office but this year happens to be the 65th anniversary of the Normandy landings. For the POTUS to ignore both his Canadian neighbours and supposed British best friends’ contribution just goes to show that a photo opportunity counts for a lot more than blood, cunt.

Charles Payne, 84, was among the American infantrymen who liberated Ohrdruf, a subdivision of the Buchenwald camp, in April 1945.

Mr Obama will next week attend a memorial ceremony at the former camp with Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, before heading to Normandy to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

Asked if his great nephew was following in his footsteps, which the White House has suggested as a reason for the trip, Mr Payne told the German magazine Der Spiegel: "I don't buy that. This is a trip that he chose, not because of me I'm sure, but for political reasons."

Dwarf in High Heels

French ‘contribution’ to the war:

Unfortunately it was French collaboration which was rather more evident than French resistance. The Vichy Government of Philippe Petain and Pierre Laval directed the French police to assist in the deportation of 76,000 Jews to extermination camps. In the case of the Old Port of Marseille, the police collaborated with the Gestapo in the destruction of an entire neighbourhood. And thousands of Frenchmen volunteered to fight for Nazis by joining the 33rd Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS Charlemagne (1st French).

And let us not forget that the Germans only demanded Jewish men, it was the French who decided to ship the women and children off to the concentration camps.

Here’s a reminder of the numbers of dead from the Battle of Normandy:

Today, twenty-seven war cemeteries hold the remains of over 110,000 dead from both sides: 77,866 German, 9386 American, 17,769 British, 5002 Canadian and 650 Poles.

Both sides (France notable by its absence).

The Queen in Unform

A final word from a British veteran:

He said: 'The veterans have immense respect for her and feel a very special bond. The fact that she took the salute at Arromanches at the 60th anniversary was very special to them.'

Coward

But he said it 'wouldn't make a scrap of difference' to most veterans whether the Prime Minister turned up or not.
