All true - see the Leeds University job pages

I'll have to move to Leeds. It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it. I'll check if you get expenses too, otherwise it might be a case of how much research I can afford.

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) - that's who dishes out the dosh - funds research and training in social and economic issues. It is an "independent" organisation, established by Royal Charter, but receive most of its funding through the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. Planned expenditure for 2009/10 is £204 million, which funds over 2,500 researchers in academic institutions and policy research institutes throughout the UK. We also support more than 2,000 postgraduate students.

As the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills hasn't got any of its own money, it must by your money they are spending. Lord Mandelson is head of it.

Mr denverthen,

that sounds awfully like an euphemism.

Quick - if we had a proper suite of evidence-based curve formulae for ladies' bottoms, we could lead the world in the programming of variable-tension knicker-knitting machines.

Think of it, dream of it - full utilization of modern polymer filaments and natural threads to make underwear which doesn't ride up, fall down or go in to horrible ripples: a boon to humanity.

Two thousand years we've been developing technology in the West and this vital area has been under-researched. Never mind all this searching for God particles with giant magnetic fishing games - it's about time we were able to make comfy pants.

Slap in a research grant application, I say.

With the emphasis on the word "slap".

This really is sexist!Where is that Harman woman when you need her?She should be getting Lord M to finance an investigation into the male sex industry. As the BBC would say, this makes it fair and balanced for all swingers.
